Q? ARE GERMAN SHEPHERDS GOOD WITH CHILDREN?
A. I feel like you may have the answer you need by simply scouring our website, testimonies, and Facebook page
Q? HOW MUCH DO I FEED MY PUPPY AND WHAT DO I FEED HIM/HER?
A. This is, by far, the most asked question we receive. Please read our page on nutrition and upon completion of your puppy contract, Vertrauen German Shepherds will provide you with a “Welcome Puppy Package” with information on feeding, exercise, training, worming and shot schedules.
Q? WHAT ARE THE BASIC COMMANDS USED IN TRAINING?
A. Basic training is typically done utilizing English or German commands.
Q? HOW DO WE NAME OUR PUPPY?
A. Per tradition, we require that you name your puppy with the respective litter letter. As an example, litter “I” would require a first name that begins with “I”, like Ivan. So, your puppy’s name, in this example, would be “Ivan vom Vertrauen” or translated “Ivan of Trust”. Of course, you may “call” your dog whatever you like.
Q? WHAT IS THE AVERAGE PRICE FOR ONE OF YOUR PUPPIES?
A. As with anything of quality in this world, whether it be houses, cars, or clothing, you get what you are paying for. With our health guarantee, passion, knowledge and support throughout the life of you dog included in your addition of your new family member/s comes a peace of mind knowing the pedigree, temperament, healthy parents, discernment of mind, and will be of great color. All of our puppies are $2,000 to $3,000, depending upon the respective parent’s lineage and titling. Sometimes more when they are bred outside the United States. This does not include shipping or shipping crate.
Q? DO YOU OFFER TOURS OF THE FACILITY?
A. Yes, our kennels tours are scheduled by appointment only. One of the staff members will be able to guide visitors around the facility after 11am, once the dogs have been through their morning feeding. Please DO NOT go to another kennel prior to visiting us. We certainly encourage visiting other facilities, but we do not know what other kennels you may visit or what type of critters, parasites, disease you may unknowingly contract on your visit there. Thank you for understanding.
Q? WHAT HAPPENS TO OUR DEPOSIT IF THERE IS NOT ENOUGH PUPPIES BORN IN THE LITTER AND WE ARE UNABLE TO RECEIVE A PUPPY?
A. We accept three deposits each for males and females but exactly how many will be born is out of our control. The deposit is transferable to another litter of your choice. It is not refundable as we schedule breedings depending on how many deposits we are holding.
Q? WHAT IS THE TYPICAL FREIGHT CHARGE FOR DELIVERY OF PUPPIES AND ADULTS?
A. Freight charges for delivery of puppies is between $280 and $500, depending upon the size and age of the puppy with average cost for adults is around $600. Airline approved kennels are between $100 and $200 and are additional cost.
Q? DO WE PAY THE FREIGHT CHARGES TO YOU OR THE AIRLINE?
A. Most often the puppy/dog can be sent freight collect so you can pay the airline directly.
Q? WHERE DO WE PICK UP OUR NEW PUPPY/DOG?
A. Normally you will go to the cargo department for pickup, separate from the terminal. If you are within 300 miles of our farm, we can make arrangements for one of our kennel help to deliver the puppy/dog directly to your front door for a fee similar to shipping via airlines.
Q? WHAT HAPPENS TO OUR DEPOSIT IF WE CHANGE OUR MIND ABOUT BUYING A DOG?
A. This has never happened at Vertrauen German Shepherds, but the contract clearly states that the deposit is non-refundable or may be moved to a future litter if due to life circumstances. After the pups are four weeks old the deposit is not transferable and deposit forfeited.
Q? WHAT IS THE PROCEDURE TO PURCHASE A PUPPY FROM YOUR KENNEL?
A. First step is to contact Shane to visit in great detail about making a match for your desired puppy to ensure the puppy/dog will have a great life. Just as important it is for you to visit with reputable breeders, we must also only deal with reputable people. We are going to be friends for 10-15 years, hopefully longer, during the life of your puppy/dog, so we must make sure that we first like each other.
Second step is to complete the puppy contract, stating the litter and sex desired.
Q? WHAT AMOUNT IS THE DEPOSIT THAT YOU REQUIRE TO HOLD A PUPPY UNTIL IT IS OLD ENOUGH TO LEAVE THE LITTER?
A. Standard deposit is $500 towards the purchase price. Pick of puppies is determined by who sends in deposits first along with their signed contract on a respective litter. Your pick must be made around the 7th week of age, your balance due at that time. This give others a chance to make their selection as well as for Vertrauen to make arrangements for pick up, delivery, or shipment of puppy on the 8th week.
